require very much attention other than that a list is made up and kept up to date (each week a note made of who’s turn it’s been).

Drivers know when they have a “long” weekend and can plan their private lives accordingly. Let me, and Geert, know what you think of this idea. If 30, out of the 40 drivers, say they are in favour of the proposal then it will have to be looked at seriously.

Let your voice be heard!!

The idea is for a rota-system so that everyone gets the chance of a normal or “long” weekend off.

This is not policy for Huisman and everyone has just a 1,5 day weekend.

I think there should be a better way of looking at the schedule, because the short weekends scare off a lot of potential new drivers, and drivers already at the company who undergo a change of circumstance (children, relationships) may turn to other employers where they are home for longer.

Amongst colleagues with whom I’ve already discussed this proposal the reactions were all very positive.

The system is really very simple to operate and is used in a number of transport companies for drivers who have to spend weekends away.

#1 is at the top of the list and #2 is “reserve” (perhaps together with #3 & #4).

The next weekend it’s #2’s turn for the “long” weekend and, because it’s pretty quiet, #3 as well.

So the next weekend it’s #4 (#5 & #6 are the reserves).

John Klomp is #26, Young free & single, and prefers to be at work as much as possible rather than at his mum’s. No problem, after consultation between Mr.Klomp and #27 he can be missed-out.

It would also be possible to swap with each other so that, for example, #21 is off on #11’s weekend and visa versa.

This system is already in use with a lot of transport companies and doesn’t

"Long" weekend?

Address Corrections

Time and time again we are sent to addresses that are incorrect; companies who’s names have changed years ago, businesses that have burned-down, fallen over and then sunk into the swamp.

The time and money lost wandering around industrial estates asking for companies that no longer exist or have moved on to a

bigger/better/smaller/cheaper place must be enormous.

Eventually we find them, after much (international) telephone traffic and cursing all the world and it’s dog.

Then I hear from the planners that “oh we’ve been there loads of times and nobody’s ever mentioned it being 10km

up the road from there!”

Drivers, colleagues, PLEASE, if there’s a discrepancy in the name of the company, the postcode turns out to be head office and we need “Gate 3”, the street is a dead end and can only be approached from one end, it’s a company “within” a company, TELL SOMEONE!! So we ALL know.
